    Ingo,

Marks voice seems to have a soft / ethereal / dreamy (need i go on?) quality about it in the Alchemy recording.

    Any tricks used for this?

Any knowledge on mic, effects, comp, reverb ? etc.

An obscure one, but if anyone can answer it you! :)

I must admit I have no idea about your question , but I have another non guitar related question about Alchemy :

have you ever wonder why the video contains no close-up of Tommy Mandel ?

He's not seen in the bar/pool/saturday-night-the-movies intro, and the only time we can see him a little bit (and back), is during the intro of solid rock.

No other close-up during all the show, and last but not least, he's no credited in the end credits !

Even Joop de Koorte is credited, but not seen because he was behind a curtain.

As far as I know, Mandel was a band member during LOG tour, so why all other members are seen, and not him ?

Do you know if it is due to contracts issues ?

I come again about Tommy mandel, because I learned a thing today (on amarkintime) :

Tommy was in fact Joop de Korte ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T…..mmy_Mandel

Did anyone kew this before ? I alwyas thought they were 2 different guys !

It could explain why Tommy mandel is not credited on the Alchemy end credits….

And it could also explain why Tommy seems to hit his keyboards on some rare close ups on Alchemy, it was indeed percussions !

However, strange to see both credits (Tommy and Joop) on Alchemy CD, LP…

So the guy we can see beside Terry Willimas on Live Aid is Tommy Mandel ?

Does anyone have more info please ?

I doubt that he was Joop de Korte (who was I think  the drum technician)

Yes, I always thought the same, and I know Wikipedia isn't always accurate, but there are some hints which tend me to think they are the same person:

    1) "Joop de Korte" is a strange name

    2) there's some mystery about the fact that Mandel doesn't appear in Alchemy video end credits. Maybe he "decided" to be credited with his pseudo

    3)  on some Terry Williams closes up (can't remember on which) songs, you can see beside him a Guy hitting some "things" (keyboard or percussions, it's not clear)

    4) during Portovello Belle in 82-83, Mark intoiduced always T.Mandel, but never Joop de Korte, so why would he be credited on playing percussions, if he was "only" the drum technician ?

The 1985 tour book of the Brothers in Arms tour also lists Joop de Korte as drum technician and percussionist,  there are even two pictures of him !
