Hey Guys,
First off great idea for a forum I have been a regular on the David Gilmour Gear forum from the start and it is huge now, hope we can get this one up to speed!
Was wondering if you guys had a track by track breakdown of the guitars and setting used to record OES in the studio. I know he used the Pensa a lot but im sure the CAR Schecter was used on OES (the song itself) and a it sounds like a Les Paul on You and Your Friend but I have never been able to confirm this, anyone out there help?
Thanks!!

Hey,
as far as I know he played a Les Paul on You and Your Friend. He played it with the toggle in middle position and turned back volume. Just read this articles: http://ds.mk-guitar.com/knopfl…..rviews.htm
I think that he used a Gibson Super 400 on Fade to Black. It sounds pretty "jazzy".

Right, the 1984 Les Paul on you and your friend, switched to out-of-phase with a push-pull poti. Maybe it was the red fender on on every street and not the red Schecter. The official songbook said that the fender was revived for OES but it remaind unclear to me whether this was meant for the song or the album.

Hi,
which guitar did he play on 'How Long', 'When it comes to you' and 'My Parties'?

By the way losely related to this i found an article on the recording of Brothers in Arms, claims Money for Nothing was recorded using Mark's Les Paul Jnr- that's news to me. Perhaps we should start a thread which discusses the various guitars used to record certain tracks create a definitive list list?
Here's the Brothers in Arms Article with some nice studio pictures

I'd vote for the Pensa o How Long and When it comes to you, and some Strat for lead on My parties, maybe the Super 400 on rhythm, but this is just my guess.
@Gunslinger: Right, I know this article, but don't really know about a Les paul junior…
Such a track list sounds like a good idea to me, maybe we should start with the first album and go on album for album. I can make a proper page with the final results, also indicating what seems to be sure and what is speculation.

Count me in !
I've always dream on such a list !
I know it's sometimes just speculation, but thats' part of the fun !
should we start here on forum ? or could it be possible to have a dedicated page with each song and columns with guitar / amp / effects…etc .. and also who play what ! I mean which part is played by Mark, and which part is played by other(s)s guitarist(s)
with such a page with columns, we could write our speculation and discussing this.
It's maybe to difficult to make. If so, tell us Ingo, and I'll be very happy to start on forum with a post per labum, for example.

As for the LP on Money for Nothing, maybe N.Dorfsman was talking about the Les Paul SPECIAL (and not junior), but I guess that it was rather the 1984 LP on this song.

Welcome to the forum, Jean-Francois :)
I think we can start such a list here in the forum and I will create a page with the final results. I can also link a forum thread to the page so that the results can be discussed again any time.
Maybe we can build up something like a database for all songs including all information, speculation, links etc. for all song.

Ingo,
Great idea, let's see what we can find out, to be honest, there really isn't enought gear information on Mark and his studio sessions.
As a suggestion when you eventually get the page up we could end up with something like this :
http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=205
Bjorn's excellent website on David Gilmour has collected lots of information what David on gear used live and in the studio and the settings (either confirmed or assumed).
Would be great to have something similar for Mark?!! Just an idea- bit of an ambitious one!!
