I´ve been searching early 80s Schecter start, but it seems like there ain´t many on sale. Do you have any idea where to find?

I am afraid I cannot help here. I think they are in fact extremely rare.

Schecter was mainly a part supplier to upgrade any Stratocaster. Complete Schecter Strats were offered by only a few authorized dealers wordlwide I think, and most of them were models of rare and expensive kinds of wood.

The finished ones like Mark had in red, sunburst or blue are even rarer.

But who knows, maybe you will find a seller here, good luck :)

Ingo, thanks for your reply. So Schecter was at first a guitar part dealer. Did the sell for example guitar necks with their own logo or was it like Warmoth business novadays? I have heard that those early 80s Schecter strats are very good but I have never played one. On British Ebay there is one Schecter copy one sale. But it´s just a copy.

I think only the complete guitars had the Schecter logo on the headstock, others only hidden at the heel of the neck so it was similar to Warmouth.

    Hi there,

As Ingo states Schecter Strats are like hen's teeth.

As regards a bit of timeline info Schecter started in the late 70's as a parts supplier, then they began building custom complete Strats. In the mid 80's the name got bought out by a Texas based company who built their own versions of Strats and Teles. These are not bad guitars at all, on a par with 80's Jap Fender in my opinion, BUT they are not Custom high end stuff like the early 80's and late 70's stuff.

In the early 90's the Scheter name was bought by a Jap company who started rebuilding the reputation by building high end Custom jobs again- these are slightly more available and of excellent quality but still pretty rare.

In my opinion you can look on Ebay from time to time and might be lucky to pick one up but people are wise to their reputation and they will be top dollar!!!.

I have a Texas 1985 Schecter with original Tom Anderson pickups. It's a great guitar with an awesome neck and the best in-between postion sounds of all the Strats that I own. I may be selling her in the future to thin out my collection now that I'am going back to college though if you are interested let me know.

Or if you must have a high end custom Strat there are lots of small volume custom builders out there. Personally I recommend callahm Guitars, their quality of components is second to none:
