Klare Kaufempfehlung.
As advertised - what a great sound! Easy to install - highly recommended - great service by Ingo.
Ingo, you and Harry Haeussel did it, congratulations !!! The sound is awesome, and this is an understatement. I couldn't even test it in the best conditions as I don't have access to my Twin Reverb, right now, and the acoustics where I am at the moment aren't optimal. But even so ! I tried Water of love (Vaison 96), I tried Speedway and Hillfarmer's Blues live, and it is amazing. It's got so much potential, it's incredible. The guitar is still being customized. I'll send you some pictures when it's all done. Again, congratulations and hats off to the both of you !
I just installed the mk 58 on my paul ... I have to tell you "I touched the sky with my fingers". Ingo, thanks for making this possible. I have strats with the alchemy pickguard and dream machine and it’s fantastic too. But the sound of MK's Paul is very special and very difficult to achieve, until I installed these pickups ... I can only say that I am happy. Thanks Ingo
I am the proud owner of one of the rare Custom Shop Mark Knopfler Les Pauls. The guitar is stunningly wonderful but too precious to take to rehearsals or bar gigs. But I wanted something close to that sound and not have to worry about it. Hence, these custom tailored pickups together with a quality 50s wiring harness should get one a fair step along the way. The pickups arrived very quickly and nicely packaged. They are clearly a quality product. Personally, I find that the ageing is very tastefully done. After installation, I made some before and after test as well as a comparison to the CS-Knopfler. I made some (artistically useless but scientific) test recordings using the same signal chain in all cases. My guitar had Burstbuckers 2 and 3 in them before that I was not a fan of. Comparison of the MK-58 neck pickup with the Custom Shop Knopfler revealed that the sound is very close (and very different from the Burstbuckers; The MK-58 and CS-Knopfler have more chime and complexity). Every guitar is different, hardware is different, wood is different etc. But in my opinion, the Mk-58 neck is as close as one can probably get to the sound of the Custom Shop Les Paul (that Knopfler says is close to his original). So - job well done Ingo and Häussl! My problem is with the same pickup in the bridge. It just doesn't sound good there. IMHO, It sounds thin there and does not balance at all with the neck pickup. If I raise it to the point where it balances with the neck pickup, it is too close to the strings and that does never sound good in a Les Paul or any other two humbucker guitar. The bridge pickup on the Custom shop Knopfler sounds much beefier. Hence - in my opinion, the MK-58 as a neck pickup is absolutely worth the investment if one is chasing the Knopfler Les Paul sound. Really great! For the bridge position, I can not recommend this pickup. Mine will most certainly not stay there and I am looking for a beefier alternative.
Ordered 2 of these in Jan 2016 - very prompt despatch & they arrived quickly. They arrived in 2 business card style boxes with the pickup wrapped in black antistatic type fabric with 2 pickup adjustment screws taped inside the box. The pickup in the neck position sounded really nice in my 2014 LP traditional (50's wiring harness)- in the bridge it sounded far to bright & nasally - I joked with my friend who owns a recording studio that the bridge sounded like a Gretsch guitar - you will note in Ingo's video he only plays the neck position & I would say this is where this pickup belongs (as MK plays the neck pos predominately ). I would say that Ingo's video of this pickup doesn't do them justice. They sound very nice, especially through a fender twin or similar amp, they also like to rock out in high gain marshall sounds which you wouldn't expect. I've contacted Ingo & Haussel but had no response on the specification of these pickups (something that guitarists would like to know) Specs by my own calculations are: DC Resistance 9.08K The Magnet I'm pretty sure is an unoriented Alnico 5 My only 'wish' is that I could spec them up more as the covers & baseplate of the pickups dont look vintage/authentic at all.
